With an elegant circular design that appears more like a normal Roomba than the competition's boxes this robot vacuum and mop combo is one of the most attractive looking models in our evaluations. The latest flagship model from iRobot is also the most intelligent. It features advanced features, like Enhanced Dirt Detection and future compatibility (another company's robot that can wash mop pads on its own).
It's also the sole robot vacuum or mop that scored a perfect 10 out of 10 in our evaluations. This is due to a combination high-tech sensors including a structured light system, a camera, and a variety of lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could fill and empty its basestation on its own. It also boasted a suction of 12,000Pa as well as self-cleaning mops.
Like other iRobot models like the X40 is easy to use, offering an intuitive mobile app interface and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit and Google Assistant. It comes with a multi-function dock that automatically emptys the vacuum's dustbin, refills its water tank, and cleans and dry its mop pads.
The smart robot employs an array of LIDAR and structured light to create floor plans and spot obstacles, navigating more intelligently than its top rivals. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time hazard detection however, it wasn't foolproof in our testing and was often confused by power cords or other obstructions.
Its vacuum has a suction capacity of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to get the job done. It also comes with an attribute known as "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the vacuum's power and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas of the house based on how dirty these areas tend to be.
If you have a larger home, you should consider selecting a model with a spot or zone cleaning mode. This allows you to tell the robot which area of your home needs to be cleaned with the help of an app or voice control. If you have a lot of furniture, a stairway mode is also a good option. For busy families recharge functions and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to pick up where it left off could be extremely useful.

It can be used to make cleaning schedules, set up a spot clean or to prioritise your dirtiest rooms to ensure better performance. The app also grants access to a host of features, such as seasonal suggestions, custom maps, and advanced settings for your cleaning.
Its shape is more rectangular than other robot vacuums, which means it is able to reach corners and underneath furniture more easily.
